Very few companies can intuitively see the benefits of investing in employee wellness initiatives. For most the words “health and safety” merely conjures up images of hard hats and first aid boxes. Although by law your employees are entitled to take sick leave, the reality is that when they do, you are essentially paying them for doing nothing and you are often incurring additional expenses to have other employees work overtime or to get a temp in to make up for the absent employee. The reality is that although someone else may be able to perform the work of the absent employee, it is often at a reduced efficiency because they are unfamiliar with the surroundings and processes or because they are already tired from working more than their normal working hours. In many instances, what it would have cost you to prevent their ailments, cost much less than losing their productivity altogether when they are off sick. Continue reading »
